A coalition of international partners is proud to announce the launch of Lighthouse, the Global Protection Fund. This new global mechanism will provide protection support to human rights defenders (HRDs) and civil society groups at risk because of their vital work.
Our support for Lighthouse's work represents our shared commitment to human rights defenders and their ability to carry out their work safely. Their courageous efforts are needed now more than ever, but they are facing unprecedented challenges.
That is why Lighthouse will represent a renewed approach to HRD protection and form a significant part of the global human rights architecture. Through a consortium of expert partners with regional expertise, Lighthouse will provide rapid, flexible assistance to a broad range of HRDs and civil society organisations.
By pooling resources, Lighthouse will ensure even more funding reaches HRDs directly. We call on others to join us in this effort and help expand the reach of Lighthouse.
Together, we can ensure that human rights defenders everywhere receive the protection they need to continue their important work that make our societies more just, equitable and peaceful.
Lighthouse is led by a Steering Committee who support the principles of Lighthouse's work, which includes the governments of Czechia, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway and the United Kingdom as well as The Carter Center, the Ford Foundation, and the Open Society Foundation.
It is currently funded by Czechia, Luxembourg, The Carter Center, and the United Kingdom.
Lighthouse is a initiative coordinated by Front Line Defenders in partnership with African Defenders, the Euro-Mediterranean Foundation for Human Rights, Forum Asia, People in Need, and Urgent Action Fund.
